At the April 12th school board meeting, the Cherokee ISD School Board voted in favor of changing the current COVID-19 protocol, guidance and mask mandate. Beginning April 19, 2021, Cherokee ISD will enact the following changes to our COVID-19 Protocol and Guidance. • Masks are no longer required for students or staff but encouraged; however, teachers may require students to wear masks in their own classrooms if they choose. If a teacher chooses to require masks to be worn in the classroom, administration will support this decision. • Current sanitation protocol will remain in place for the remainder of the school year. • Students and staff will need to self-screen before coming to school. If symptomatic, stay home. • Any student or staff member who has close contact with an individual in the same household that tests positive will be required to quarantine. See stay at home guidelines below. • The school will still notify parents regarding positive cases on campus. • If a student or staff member is exposed outside household, then the student or staff member would be asked to wear masks and monitor symptoms as a precaution while at school. If symptoms develop then the student or staff member would go home to quarantine until obtaining a doctor’s note or a negative COVID-19 test. • If your child is sick and the symptoms are out of the ordinary for your child please keep your child home, notify the school and contact your physician. • As always if your child is ill and running fever, your child cannot return to school until he/she is fever free for 24 hours. • Visitors will be allowed to have lunch with their student preferably on the blacktop if weather is permitting. Visitors will be screened when checking into the office. The stay at-home period can be: - 10 days after the last close contact and continue to monitor themselves daily for symptoms - 7 days after the last close contact, after receiving a negative test result (administered at least 5 days after the last close contact), so long as they continue to monitor themselves daily for symptoms These guidelines are subject to change depending on the rise of cases. The school board will revisit this plan at the May 3, 2021, school board meeting. If you have any questions please contact the office. Sincerely, Jennifer Bordner
